Don’t be sheltered; expose yourself and learn. If on your way you encounter conflicts drop ’em immediately and move on. Be consistent and pleasant — this doesn’t mean that you have to acquiesce to anything. Just remember conflict obstructs, sincere but impartial kindness furthers.

This week we pulled the Knight of Wands, reversed. Aimless and without devotion? Confined but squirmy for a lack of discipline? You need purpose! (And the passion to support it.) “But how?!” Just start! There is enough stuff in this world to give your life shape, stuff to pull close, stuff to kick in the eye, stuff to contemplate, stuff to reorder… You just have to get out there.

Our first hexagram this week is #6, Conflict. Oof!! “If a person is entangled in a conflict, their only salvation lies in being so clear–headed and inwardly strong that they are always ready to come to terms by meeting the opponent halfway. To carry on the conflict to the bitter end has evil effects even when one is in the right, because the enmity is then perpetuated.” Oh the beauty of truth!! And what is more truthful than the condition of compromise? There was one change this week, of which the specific note is: there is sooooo often a feeling that we are weak if we back out of a conflict — here it says that, most of the time, a conflict should be dropped as soon as it arrives — lovely.

Our second hexagram, the one that suggests how best to meet the challenges (or the changes) is #10, Treading (Conduct). Total equality of everything at all times is simply impossible — so vast are the elements and so vast are the lives that interact with them. So what to do? When there is no order — you must create it for yourself. Here it is called “decorum.” Consistent and “pleasant manners succeed even with irritable people.”
