Knight of Swords (reversed)

40. Deliverance
21. Biting Through
All our readings this week point to some sort of caution regarding right measure when pursuing justice — that is, a risk of inequity in the pursuit of equity is a real danger. So, in manners of external judgments this period, use care in order that you don’t break what needs only cool-headed correction.

This week we pulled the Knight of Swords reversed. The zealous confidence of the knight’s charge is furthered; the energy has become perverse. In your behavior watch out for fiery short-sighted narcissism — spilt blood can’t be undone.
Our first hexagram this week is #40, Deliverance. With this hexagram we have a discussion/warning regarding the release of great pressures. “…rain relieves atmospheric tension, making all the buds burst open, so a time of deliverance from burdensome pressure has a liberating and stimulating effect on life… a time in which tensions and complications begin to be eased. At such times we ought to make our way back to ordinary conditions as soon as possible… Returning to the regular order of life as soon as deliverance is achieved brings good fortune. If there are any residual matters that ought to be attended to, it should be done as quickly as possible.” There were three changes in our hexagram of which the specific notes are: celebrate victories with calmness and silence, don’t harbor anger in your heart against your enemies — set them free, and bide your time — then act.
Our second hexagram, the one that suggests how best to meet the challenges (or the changes) is #21, Biting Through. Here we have advice concerning the correct way to neutralize obstacles (of the human type). “When an obstacle arises, energetic biting through brings success. This is true in all situations.” However(!) the manner, measure and pressure applied is extremely important to get right: “unqualified hardness and excitement would be too violent… unqualified clarity and gentleness would be too weak… the two together create the just measure.”
