This week we pulled the Justice card. This card is a symbol of raw truth. And if we agree that “truth is time’s daughter” — what is hidden won’t stay that way forever. This is a time to consider airing a suppression or resting assured that a darkness will come to light.
Our first hexagram this week is #63, After Completion. This hexagram details a special type of wisdom, that of planning for disturbance and divergence during a time of balance. Stability born of equilibrium is often our aim in life but the phrase “delicate balance” is commonly tethered to it, as equality is not a simple, stable state — it requires that elements are just so. “In life too there are junctures when all forces are in balance and work in harmony, so that everything seems to be in the best of order. In such times only the sage recognizes the moments that bode danger and knows how to banish it by means of timely precautions.” There were two changes this week, of which the specific notes are: foster simple piety and do not gloss over details.
Our second hexagram, the one that suggests how best to meet the challenges (or the changes) is #17, Following. This hexagram recurs, as it was our sole hexagram last week. To refresh, here we have a chief aphorism of the I Ching to lead is to serve. We take this as, leadership is a combinatory affair: burgeoning awareness + flexibility. That is, to get anything: thoughts, people, or what have you, into a functioning order, it is not by tyranny that this is achieved but by mutuality and compromise born of genuine/healthy understanding.
