Seven of Wands

6. Conflict
64. Before Completion
Petite Reading:
There is a deep momentum present; like water moving in a channel toward a sea. Custodians of critical and poetic capacity are needed to steward the power to the seat of its aspiration. This is neither an easy task nor one for everybody.
Complete Reading:
This week we pulled the “Seven of Wands.” Here the image is of a person defending themselves from a multitude of attackers. This contender/defender has the advantage of a hilltop position. Conspicuously the personage wears mismatched shoes — a symbol of being thrown into the situation without the benefit of preparation (life). The stronghold is defensible — but requires eternal vigilance.
Our first hexagram, which we partner with our tarot to describe (or further detail) the current situation, is #6, Conflict. “If a person is entangled in a conflict, their only salvation lies in being so clear–headed and inwardly strong that they are always ready to come to terms by meeting the opponent halfway.” The discussion here is about the sincere desire to have a situation be truly correct. That is, there is no circumstance where one party is totally without error — thus true salvation lies in the struggle for noble compromise. The specific change this week points to holding one’s ground if a genuine belief is present — if you know you are right stay with it.
Our second hexagram, the one that suggests how best to meet the challenges (or the changes) is #64, Before Completion. “The conditions are difficult. The task is great and full of responsibility.” “It is nothing less than that of leading the world out of confusion back to order… deliberation and caution are the prerequisites of success.” This hexagram points to success or an arrival that has been in progress for a long time — almost inevitable. It is not wholly in the bag but needs to be carefully carried through to the final realization — without core clarity.
