This week we pulled the “Four of Cups (reversed).” This card typically indicates a victory of force — like you’ve vanquished your enemies and for the right reasons. But since the card arrived in reverse aspect, it signals some sort of supreme miscalculation. Perhaps you are failing at something integral because either you can’t or refuse to see the field’s complexity and specificity.
Our first hexagram, which we partner with our tarot to describe (or further detail) the current situation, is #63, (After Completion). This hexagram contained three changes; like last week, expect a fair amount of variation this period. When a vessel is full to the brim it is a blessing — but it is also heavy, thus unwieldy and likely to spill. So if there is a fullness in your life don’t relax about it cater to it. Try to recognize “the moments that bode danger” and try to banish them “by means of timely precautions.”
Our second hexagram, the one that suggests how best to meet the challenges (or the changes) is #46 (Pushing Upward). This hexagram contains, for us, one of the best lines in the whole of the I Ching — we think its meaning self evident: “Adapting itself to obstacles and bending around them, wood in the earth grows upward without haste and without rest. Thus too the superior person is devoted in character and never pauses in their progress.”
Our extraction: Like a waiter with a full tray — be aware of your surrounding and do not relax until your job is done to completion. Aim for constant accuracy not overshooting — this is made easier if you are not “affected by general intoxication.”
