Page of Cups

36. Darkening of the light
51. The Arousing (Shock, Thunder)
This week we pulled the “Page of Cups.” This card intimates a period of creativity in the artistic sense. The image here is of a young man — he is kind, sensitive, and imaginative. It is said that he is inclined towards the environs of home; though is not necessarily shy or unadventurous — he simply prefers his own surroundings to fully realize his powers. Perhaps burrow into your studio or home this period with the express purpose of cultivating more poetic articulations — don’t force an overly social aspect.
Our first hexagram, which we partner with our tarot to describe (or further detail) the current situation, is #36, “Darkening of the light.” Here we have an intimation that a darker facet (of personality or of social order) is dominant. There is much direct advice here: “Perseverance must dwell in inmost consciousness and should not be discernible from without.” “In social intercourse one should not try to be all–knowing. One should let many things pass, without being duped.” As well “maintain” your “inner light.” The changes here point to two specific considerations. One, do not depose a wrongdoer (or a wrong aspect) too swiftly, as bad aspects are often part of integral structure (take time to replace). And two, discovering the true purpose of a dark force may show that there is no correcting it — leave it alone and move away from it, or risk further misfortune or contamination.
Our second hexagram, the one that suggests how best to meet the challenges (or the changes) is #51, “The Arousing (Shock, Thunder).” This hexagram makes us think of the experience of taking psychedelic substances. Often these encounters involve many shocks, both harrowing and transcendently mortifying (“fear and trembling”). But from them comes something like revelation and deep strength (when you have had to fully face the violence of your own insignificance within the vastness, the malevolent and despicable can no longer really touch you). It is intimated here that there might be some sort of revelatory shock latterly this week, but of this nutritive kind. (A good weekend for psychedelics?)
Our extraction: Nurture your artistic impulses this period; but do not be flamboyant or public about it (exercise poetics with family and your team). In outward dealings be conservative and protective — without arousing detection. In the latter period it may be a fortuitous time to obliterate your petty conceptions via some Misérable Miracle. Maybe.
