This week we drew the “The Tower” tarot. The Tower is a card that symbolizes destruction. Ruination brought on by hubris and selfishness — perhaps the karma of power ill begotten. It must be said that the fall here is not avoidable; either it has already happened or it is imminent. However this card also signifies renewal and rebuilding, an occasion to start over and remedy previous wrongs.
Our first hexagram, which we partner with our tarot to describe (or further detail) the current situation, is #27 “Corners of the Mouth”. This hexagram deals with the subject of nourishment, as in feeding oneself and feeding others. When feeding yourself make sure that you feed the best parts of yourself — and when feeding others, feed those that are inclined to feed the best parts of themselves. This strengthens all that is good. “Those who cultivate the inferior parts of their nature are inferior. Those who cultivate the superior parts of their nature are superior.”
Our second hexagram, the one that suggests how best to meet the challenges (or the changes ) is #24 “The Turning Point”. This hexagram details the ushering in of a new phase; a movement towards light after a period of difficulty and darkness. Here “the idea of RETURN is based on the course of nature” — which means that it is not willed, it happens out of our control. The meta or cosmic nature of this inevitable completing of a cycle is the key to its light — the masses of people see the difficulty as a universal condition, thus are only left to work and bear it all together.
Our extraction: As said, the tower signals the need for new ways of being, the old were disastrous. But with the destruction is always the absolute necessity of rebuilding. The second hexagram states “everything must be treated tenderly and with care at the beginning, so that the return may lead to a flowering.” Perhaps it is best to think of the new construction, not as a tower but as a flower — not even vertical, but horizontal, like a field of flowers. The second hexagram mixes in nicely here — (in this new phase) nourish only the flowering/fruiting parts in yourself and others.
