Seven of Wands

30. The Clinging, Fire
51. The Arousing
For this week we drew the The Seven of Wands (Valor). This card points to struggle, but outward personal struggle not a confused group struggle. If there is to be difficulty it will be a difficulty marked by standing alone and gallantly holding your ground against thwarting hoards. Those that know what their true strengths are will do better than those that solely rely on definition by others.
Our first hexagram (#30) which we partner with our tarot to describe the current situation, is very much in accord with the The Seven of Wands. This hexagram signals that perseverance requires fuel from within. But it specifies that this inner power draws less on a personal, unique configuration but from general knowledge and universal acceptance — compliance with limitation and abidance with one’s place in the world. The human situation like all somewhat definable things is “conditioned”, “unfree” and “limited”. To know Nature is to know yourself, for you like all things, are Nature. This knowledge is power.
Our second hexagram, the one that suggests how best to meet the challenges (the changes) is #51. This hexagram suggests a particular sequence: deep shock, subsequent fearful trembling, followed by the development of a “profound inner seriousness”. The overcoming of the terror is found in reverence not in hiding. It is even proposed that the fostering of an internal, sober sincerity “is the foundation of true culture”!
It seems that the best demeanor this week extends beyond this week, this could be the beginning of perpetual self-reliance and reverence. It is important to remember that “reverence” does not mean worship, it means to have deep respect. So hold your ground — in a manner not combative but in courageously poised veneration — with the intention to hold this position perhaps forever.
