The Hanged Man

19. Approach
35. Progress
35. Progress
These first few lines are the general aphoristic returns for the week. They are raw and uninterpreted; there to use how you’d like. (The specific readings follow.)
Question from “M.E.”: Keeping in mind this week’s header text... If one is being manipulated/tricked, by people with solidly more resources and means than themself (as is overwhelmingly common today)... to get them wrapped up in utopian goals and fears leaving them either uselessly inflamed and/or wasted, resourced-drained husks — (making them easy to dominate; neutralizing them as a threat) — what can the resource-deficient person do to block this? That is, grow and remove themselves from this entrenched, psychic warfare? As in the header text, particularly referring to the solidly upper middle class’ (and higher), manipulation and dominance over the solidly lower middle class (and lower).
Oracle reply: It falls upon each individual person to face the reality of their situation. No one is coming to save you; if they say they are, they are lying or unconsciously meretricious.
You must actively surrender to the worst circumstance(s) of your life (death, an ill divided world, the reality of the limitations of your resources, etc.) and build from there. All else is delusion — not to be defeated but to avoid getting caught in the swamp of fantasy.
The unfair dynamics of power and resources are as old as animal life itself.
To achieve clarity, one must turn away and rise above purely earthbound concerns.
Complete Reading:
This week we pulled The Hanged Man. Here, a kind of retreat to go forward. It is important to understand that The Hanged Man’s position is self-imposed, not an external penalty. A kind of serious pre-death ritual and contemplation (like actual meditation) — a surrendering to the mystery to better work with it. Another way — when one meditates seriously, they are reversing the world; instead of being quick and fighting, one is quiet and listening. Instead of ignoring, or falsely embroidering reality, one just faces it. To see the world properly, you must see it reversed.
Our first hexagram this week is #19, Approach. This hexagram details the time right before the end of winter; a time when darkness is losing power and the rejuvenating energy of spring is imminent: “...a time of joyous, hopeful progress. Spring is approaching. Joy and forbearance bring high and low nearer together. Success is certain. We must work with determination and perseverance to make full use of the propitiousness of the time...” However, difficult times always return: “Spring does not last forever ...if we meet evil before it becomes reality — before it has even begun to stir — we can master it.” This is an advisement to take advantage of health and light while you can. Prepare against the dark forces(!) whatever they may be…
There were two changes this week of which the notes are: success or achievement is not a time to relax — it is a time like any other, that is, to be vigilant and modest. To lead one must allow the influence of intelligent and superlative people from ALL walks of life.
Our second hexagram, the one that suggests how best to meet the challenges (or the changes) is #35, Progress. “The superior person brightens their bright virtue.” If you do something virtuous, do it in the open air and stay there. The light of good work is not an avatar, so as the true body can return to the dark to do dark things. Good work should be accompanied by those who did it — ultimately to learn how to successfully stay/live in the bright part of the work (which is not easy). “...the light of the sun as it rises over the earth is by nature clear. The higher the sun rises, the more it emerges from the dark mists, spreading the pristine purity of its rays over an ever widening area. The real nature of humanity is likewise originally good, but it becomes clouded by contact with earthly things and therefore needs purification before it can shine forth in its native clarity.” Another way, a human must turn away and rise above purely earthbound concerns, so as to have the most light and clarity.
- You must surrender to The Mystery (The All) to better work with it.
- To see the world properly, you must see it reversed.
- The Spring does not last forever; take advantage of health and light while you can.
