These first few lines are the general aphoristic returns for the week. They are raw and uninterpreted; there to use how you’d like. (The specific readings follow.)

  • consider following your emotions and downplaying your reason/intellect
  • develop “the courage to face things exactly as they are, without any sort of self–deception or illusion”
  • do not provoke the sincerely violent, find a way to participate in nutritive soothing
  • persevere in loving creativity, do best not to produce alliances born of negativity

From “O.S.”: Can you please advise the best ways to stay calm and fully enjoy the present moment? Thanks.

Do everything you can to foster love in all of your being. You will fail and your love will never be complete; but if you strive to love yourself and all things (no matter the absolute horrors past or the absolute horrors forthcoming, no matter the pervasive sliminess or the ubiquitous corporate/zombie-enslaving/blood-for-slurpee banality, etc. etc.) you will understand joy. You will.

This week we pulled the Knight of Cups… Cups in the tarot are related to feelings, relationships and emotional intuition. Knights, are symbols of strength in action — with energy and skill (but not always in control). In combination (the Knight of Cups) is to be thought of as the romantic warrior… Something in your world is being led (or is asking to be led) by the heart and not the head — so consider following your emotions and downplaying your reason/intellect this period.

Our first hexagram this week is #5, Waiting (Nourishment). Here patience is being matched with getting what one needs— as in, the former is necessary to achieve the latter. “One is faced with a danger that has to be overcome. Weakness and impatience can do nothing. Only a strong person can stand up to their fate, for their inner security enables them to endure to the end. This strength shows itself in uncompromising truthfulness (with themself). It is only when we have the courage to face things exactly as they are, without any sort of self–deception or illusion, that a light will develop out of events, by which the path to success may be recognized. This recognition must be followed by resolute and persevering action. For only the person who goes to meet their fate resolutely is equipped to deal with it adequately.” There were two changes this week, of which the specific notes are: utter danger is all around, the only thing to do is hold still and not disturb it further and do not sulk during this violence, be aware and (perhaps oddly respectful ) — if you do safety, (likely) will be achieved.

Our second hexagram, the one that suggests how best to meet the challenges (or the changes) is #1, The Creative. This, as we have said before, is the ultimate statement of the I Ching. We encounter it now and then — every time we do, it feels like some primordial meme, catalyzed by a cheerful, evolutionarily minded sage, is speaking to us directly — exciting us to reproduce it. “These unbroken lines stand for the primal power, which is light–giving, active, strong, and of the spirit.” “When an individual draws this oracle, it means that success will come to them from the primal depths of the universe and that everything depends upon them seeking their happiness (and that of others) in one way only, that is, by perseverance in what is right...” Of course many will say “How can one possibly know what is right?! It’s so conditional — what vague mush!” Well, we share the opinion of the I Ching: what is “right” is the perseverance of love. “More mush!” Well, to us, love of all in spite of all is not mush, just transcendentally difficult. If you only cast your affection towards those who can advance a base thirst for dominance — you have made the world worse. To us, an understanding of love, is done best by envisioning a society completely devoid of it (not to imagine an impossible to achieve peaceful world — like some oft referenced, meaningless clap trap). “But the world is so cruel!” Yes it is, but must we/you be?
