Ghastly distorted doo wop crackled from
somewhere above the gas pumps.
…don’t know why I do wah…
In the sky crows drew illegible shapes.
Beyond, on the indecipherable hills, a lone
cloud cast an indecipherable shadow.
Inside, cheap thoughts squeaked like a rack of
cheap sunglasses.
Not far from the high desert gas station, we
crunched off into the edge lands,
again among the ants and plants and broken
cd shards.
We sat in the shade of a meaningless bush,
to avoid the heat of an illiterate sun,
hearing the occasional blasé gurgles of semi
truck engines.
Mystified by everything —
we shivered in disgust
thinking how most only live to give off a
confident air.
When we stood we could see the slash of
the red rover mine.
…I wonder why, wop wop wop…
One day we’ll walk out and never come back.
somewhere above the gas pumps.
…don’t know why I do wah…
