A consolation:
The varied hubris of the various peoples of this planet is actually outshined by the interestingness and diversity of detail of this planet.

Further consolations:
Doji Morita, Sherrie Levine, Alan Turing, Nathalie Sarraute, Alan Kay, Pedro Almodovar, Walter Pater, etc, etc.

Consolation in fantasy by way of an imaginary interview with Brazilian botanist João Pirahã:
I was looking for an infamously rare strain of mamey sapote, in a fiercely-isolated forest of Brazil’s upper Madeira basin, when I came upon a large solitary pond. Its formation seemed the long ago result of a particularly heavy rainy season and the subsequent receding of the great river. What I beheld here will most likely never be matched by my eyes again. The water was virtually as clear and still as the air above it. Besides some very tiny paddle-tailed minnows, there was only a population of the most beautiful gold colored carp — I have never seen others like them… The carp’s sole sustenance was a type of purple berry that I wasn’t able to identify, but not unlike those of common ginger. The remarkable thing was the berry’s pigment; it was near indelible and defined the scene. When the carp passed the fruit as waste, there was no loss in the pigment’s intensity; the bottom of the pond was completely covered in these vivid violet husks. When the sun reached its zenith around noontime the entire area radiated in purple and gold. The fish seemed gold wisps flying and darting gently over violaceous velvet… For the better part of a week I camped on the pond’s narrow purple bank, smoking my remaining cigarettes, transfixed for hours on end…
