The massive weirdness of humans

Uneven fragments pervade the work of Barbara Leclercq — you’ll find no comfort in symmetries or totalities here. Leclercq is resolutely disordered. After perusing the images on her well calibrated site we are left feeling quite rightly that wholeness is the imp of the inattentive and fearful.

All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace, is a 2011 BBC documentary series, directed by Adam Curtis — it is nothing short of amazing. All manner of modern utopia is dissembled within. Do not expect anything provincial or pat in the dissections though. Shots linger long and uncomfortably, familiar music is utilized with high idiosyncrasy, interviews are candid with people whom one would expect to be merely deceitful — the whole thing doesn’t even leave you with the typical feeling of government induced paranoia — rather, only a sense of the massive weirdness of humans remains. It’s just sooo well done.
