Our preoccupations and findings for the week

Recently whilst traipsing about a museum garden we came upon a fairly isolated outdoor fountain. It was constructed from large blocks of stone and was artfully encroached upon by varied foliage — with water trickling disinterestedly into a deep algae-filled pool. It gave the impression of a ruinous and flooded entrance to an ancient tomb. However the effect was conditional. The sound of a nearby highway was quite audible. And the occasional, dusty and torpid conversations of other visitors couldn’t be avoided. Not to mention our noisy interior monologue. But still on occasion we could turn to the illusion and complete the fantastical implication. It reminded us of that wonderful notion: beauty is a play with distances. Beauty (or whatever you want to call it) can neither be come upon nor trapped.

Sites in use

The variables that make up human individuals at any point in time are beyond legion. This lack of accord from person to person is the reason why life is so difficult — we are constantly misinterpreting each other (or at least we’re not in the same place). So when it comes representing a body of work, unless you are planning on being the author of a new design or art movement and ready to stave off belligerent naysayers — it’s probably best to keep communication simple. There are infinite ways to do this of course. After aesthetically reverse-engineering Graphic Designer Bern Simon Meier’s lovely site, we got one: make it bigger and reduce variables. 👽🖖

ORACLE

Of both the Tarot and the I Ching, we asked the following: For the coming week, what is the best advice for the engaged and sincere person?

“The World” (or “The Universe”) might be described as an ultimate card. Union with all; the object of seekers of spiritual truth. But relations with magnitude (except in circumstances we are unaware of) cannot be forced. Though you may rightly understand yourself to be a fractal of this magnitude, you are a fractal nonetheless.
The first hexagram (#28) describing our current state of affairs, bears a heavy warning. “The weight of the great is excessive. The load is too heavy for the strength of the supports.” The next hexagram (#33) continues the admonishment with “retreat” the “conditions are such that the hostile forces favored by the time are advancing.” It seems clear that this time period is not one of great power and understanding. And healthy retreat is one of the greatest skills to possess. Perseverance at any cost does not guarantee a particular outcome — and certainly you must know a limitation before you can transcend it.
